Bonaire is one of the so-called ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) and has about 15,000 inhabitants. It’s a quiet and safe island with hardly any crime. The island draws at least 100,000 tourists annually, who want to enjoy the peace and quiet and the water sports on Bonaire.
The culture on Bonaire is comparable to the other Caribbean Islands, combined with Latin-American influences. There are several national festivals on the calendar and religious celebrations are very important as well.
Currency
At the moment the currency is the Antilles Guilder, which is about $ 0.56. at the moment. Per 1 October 2010 the official currency on Bonaire will be the US dollar.
Tips and Information
Vaccinations are not necessary for visiting Bonaire. You can do your grocery shopping in the supermarket.
Prices are a bit lower than in the US.
About three times a week supplies are transported by boat from Curacao.
